Me: (making a cup of green tea after 2 cups of coffee) I’ve already written 1000 words this morning and committed a heinous act of violence!
Mom: (not looking up from her newspaper) Well, easy come, easy go.
Let me know if you have family and friends who are not impressed when you tell them one of your characters has murdered another because it’s just another day at the office for them.
Green with envy
Fly away green
Green grow the lilies oh
Swear by green
What am I going to do now green
I want a new job green
Kill all these bitches green
Go away green
Make me a better person green
I don’t care green
When the sun peers into the sea
It doesn’t see itself at first
But when the reflection is clear
The sun is riding on the waves.
I wrote this in 5th grade and I’m still kinda proud of it even though reflections need light or whatever and scientifically it doesn’t make any sense BUT there’s this weird place where writing takes you where things don’t have to make sense to make you feel good.
A monstrous smile
moves in the wildness;
you said: get the quick
victory. Take me on faith.
Lost people remember
the fire, the starlight,
the luminous morning moving
in the darkness.
You keep talking; you
Need me doing like I’m
told. I didn’t
really think of
the subway, music
like red fire, the world
looking like the enemy.

For some reason we were talking about directions first thing in the morning, literal directions and written instructions.
Me: wow thanks for making sure the left and right side of my brain are working.
Mr. J.: Yes because that’s how you know to take a left instead of two rights.
Me: Two rights EQUAL a left so fuck off!
Mr. J.: No they don’t…(dramatic pause)…It’s three rights make a left.
Me: fuck off
Mr. J: wow you really learned a lot from those gen ed classes in college.
